On this day, 29 years ago, on September 12, 1996 (July 30, 1996, the first overseas Sinology research center in universities across the country was established. On September 12, 1996, the Overseas Sinology Research Center of Beijing Foreign Studies University was established in Beijing. Professor Ji Xianlin and Ren Jiyu of Peking University and Professor Tang Yijie, Dean of China Academy of Culture and Professor of the Department of Philosophy of Peking University, were recruited to serve as honorary consultants of this center. The center focuses on the development and current situation of overseas Sinology. Its fundamental task is to conduct counter-research on overseas China issues and the study of China culture, and explore the history, characteristics, methods and laws of the spread of China culture overseas, so as to more deeply promote cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries around the world, and also promote the discipline construction and development of Beijing Foreign Studies University. The center is currently the first entity institution in universities across the country to study overseas Sinology. After its establishment, the center will actively carry out cooperative research and academic exchanges with academic circles at home and abroad.
