Breaking-News >> TodayHistory The Constitution of the Republic of China of December 25, 1946 confirmed Chiang Kai-shek's personal rule
On this day, 79 years ago, December 25, 1946 (December 3, 1946 in the lunar calendar), the Constitution of the Republic of China confirmed Chiang Kai-shek's personal rule. The Kuomintang held a one-party "National Convention"(i.e., the "Constituent National Assembly") in Nanjing that violated the resolutions of the CPPCC. On December 25, 1946, the "National Convention" closed in Nanjing. This meeting opened on the 12th of last month. After the Kuomintang occupied Zhangjiakou, it violated the regulations of the Political Consultative Conference and unilaterally convened this "National Convention". Representatives of the Kuomintang, the Youth Party, and the Democratic Social Democratic Party, as well as more than 1600 "social sages" such as Hu Shi, Wang Yunwu, Fu Sinian, and Hu Lin attended the conference. The Communist Party of China and all democratic parties refused to participate. The conference did nothing and elected Wu Zhihui as chairman of the conference, Chiang Kai-shek and other 48 members of the presidium, and Hong Lanyou as secretary-general. The central task of this conference is to formulate the Constitution of the Republic of China, so it is also called the "Constituent National Assembly". Chiang Kai-shek delivered an opening speech for the conference and submitted the draft "Constitution", which was revised and supplemented by Wang Chonghui, Wu Jingxiong, Lei Zhen and others on the eve of the conference, and which was personally deleted and revised by Chiang, to the Court, the People's Democratic Society, the Youth Party and the "Social Leaders" for review, and then submitted it to the "National Assembly" for review.
