December 14, 1920 Ireland was divided in two
105 years ago today, on December 14, 1920 (November 5, 1920 in the lunar calendar), Ireland was divided into two. In late November, the army took control of protesters in Dublin. On December 14, 1920, the British House of Lords passed a decision dividing Ireland into two parts. Under the Irish Administration Act, each of these two parts will have a parliament and an executive body. The Northern Parliament represents Antrim-Amah, Don Fermana, the counties of London, Delhi and Tyrone. Most of the residents in these six counties are Protestant. The Southern Parliament, which represents the Catholic majority, will be based in Dublin. The public interests of both parties are dealt with by Ireland's new Privy Council, while these two parts of the country continue to be represented in the British Parliament. Southern politicians have claimed they have opposed the new law.
