Fifty years ago today, on June 19, 1975 (May 10, 1975 in the lunar calendar), the first World Conference on Women was held in Mexico. The conference was the first world intergovernmental conference devoted to women's issues since the founding of the United Nations and was also one of the important activities of the International Women's Year. The meeting adopted the "Declaration on the Equal Status of Women and Their Contribution to Development and Peace"(referred to as the "Mexico Declaration ") and the" World Plan of Action to Achieve the Goals of the Year "(referred to as the" World Plan of Action "), and recommended to the United Nations that the period 1976 - 1985 be declared the "United Nations Decade for Women". According to the recommendations of the first conference, the Second and Third World Conferences on Women were held as scheduled in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, and Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, from July 14 to 31, 1980 and July 13 to 26, 1985, respectively. The second conference reviewed and evaluated the achievements made in the first half of the United Nations Decade for Women. The third conference reviewed the progress made towards achieving the ten-year goals and adopted the Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women to the Year 2000. The China government has always warmly supported the United Nations on Women's Affairs. In January 1991, my government sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, requesting to hold the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. On August 28, 1992, the Conference Organizing Committee, which was specifically responsible for the preparations for the Conference, was formally established. Under the leadership of the State Council, various government departments cooperate closely, actively prepare, and conscientiously fulfill their obligations as the host country. In September 1995, the Fourth World Conference on Women was successfully held in Beijing. On June 6, 1993, Chen Muhua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Chairman of the All-China Women's Federation, met with Ms. Mongella, Secretary-General of the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
