Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On June 29, 1913, the Second Balkan War broke out
112 years ago today, June 29, 1913 (May 25, 1913 in the lunar calendar), the Second Balkan War broke out. The Fifth Corps of Greece launched a counterattack on the Bulgarian front. After the end of the first Balkan War, the rulers of the Balkan Alliance countries grew their desire for expansion and made territorial claims to each other. These quarrels were increasingly heated by the intervention of two imperialist groups, the Allies and the Allies. On June 1, 1913, Serbia and Greece secretly concluded an anti-Bulgarian alliance, and Romania immediately joined. On June 29 of the same year, Bulgaria launched a sudden attack on Serbia and Greece, but was met with fierce resistance. Romania immediately marched south. Turkey wanted to seize the opportunity to recover lost territory and launched an attack on Bulgaria on July 16. Bulgaria was attacked on all sides and continued to suffer setbacks. On July 29, it was time for peace. On August 10, the warring countries signed the Treaty of Bucharest, and Serbia, Greece, Romania, Turkey, and Montenegro each obtained some territory. After the war, the composition of the Balkan countries changed. The original anti-Turkish alliance no longer existed. It was replaced by two groups, one being Serbia, Greece, and Romania, and the other being Bulgaria and Turkey. Behind these two groups are controlled by the forces of the Allies and Allies. The two Balkan Wars greatly enhanced Serbia's strength, which deepened the contradiction between Serbia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and finally made the Balkans a powder keg in the First World War.
