On 123 years ago today, June 29, 1902 (May 24, 1902, the lunar calendar), Wang Guosong, a China electrical educator, was born. Wang Guosong is an electrician educator in China. Born in Wenzhou, Zhejiang on June 29, 1902, he died of intestinal cancer in Hangzhou, Zhejiang on December 3, 1983. In 1920, he entered Zhejiang Public Industrial College to study electrical engineering. He graduated in 1925, received a bachelor's degree and stayed there as a teaching assistant. In 1930, he was admitted to study abroad at public expense and entered the Graduate School of Cornell University to study electrical engineering. He received a master's degree in 1931 and a doctorate in philosophy in 1933. He returned to China in August 1933 and taught in the Department of Electrical Engineering of Zhejiang University. He served successively as associate professor, professor, director of the Department of Electrical Engineering, and dean of the School of Engineering. After 1949, he served as vice president of Zhejiang University and served as a first-class professor. In 1934, he and Li Ximou and others initiated the organization of China Society of Electrical Engineers (now China Society of Electrical Engineers). Over the years, Wang Guosong has taught courses such as DC motors, AC circuits, power plant equipment, transmission and distribution engineering, and electrical mathematics, among which the Department of Electrical Mathematics is the first in China.
