On September 21, 2019 (August 23, 2019 in the lunar calendar), China officially established ambassadorial diplomatic relations with Solomon Islands. On September 21, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Solomon Islands Foreign Minister Manele in Beijing and signed the "Joint Communique between the People's Republic of China and Solomon Islands on Establishing Diplomatic Relations." The main contents are as follows: The People's Republic of China and the Solomon Islands, in accordance with the interests and wishes of the two peoples, hereby decide to recognize each other and establish diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level from the date of signing the communiqué. The two governments agreed to develop friendly relations between the two countries on the basis of the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence. The government of the Solomon Islands recognizes that there is only one China in the world, that the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legal government representing all of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Solomon Islands government immediately severed its so-called "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan and promised not to have any official relations or exchanges with Taiwan. The government of the People's Republic of China appreciates the above position of the government of the Solomon Islands. Before the signing of the communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Sri Lanka in Beijing, the government of the Solomon Islands issued a statement announcing its recognition of the one-China principle and severing so-called "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan authorities.
