On June 30, 1993, the famous BEYOND rock band Huang Jiaju passed away
On this day, 32 years ago, on June 30, 1993 (May 11, 1993, the lead singer of the famous rock band BEYOND, Huang Jiaju, passed away. Huang Jiaju (June 10, 1962-June 30, 1993, 26 years ago), one of the founders of Chinese original music, one of the pioneers of Chinese rock and roll, a great talented artist, humanist, pacifist, idealist, lead singer and guitarist of the famous rock band BEYOND in the China Hong Kong, and the second brother of his band's bassist Huang Jiaqiang. Huang Jiaju had a very good relationship with his brother Huang Jiaqiang when he was a child. In junior high school, Ka-Kui fell in love with Western European pop music due to the subtle influence of his friends. At the age of 15, he found a dilapidated guitar in the back alley of the company where his father worked (another saying is that at the age of 17, he left an acoustic guitar behind when his neighbor moved.), which made him have an indissoluble bond with this instrument. After graduating from Boyun Middle School, Huang Jiaju worked as an office assistant, hardware, air conditioning, water and electricity engineering, TV set crew, etc., and even joined the insurance company where band drummer Ye Shirong worked as a salesperson. In the early 1980s, Huang Jiaju met Ye Shirong through the introduction of the piano store owner and discovered that they had similar musical interests. He formed a band with his two friends Deng Weiqian (also known as Wu Lin, William in English) and Li Rongchao for musical exchanges. This was the prototype of BEYOND. They officially formed BEYOND in 1983. After several personnel changes, bass guitarist Huang Jiaqiang and lead guitarist Huang Guanzhong joined in one after another. After holding the "Always Waiting" concert and releasing the cassette "Goodbye Ideal", they finally won the favor of managers and joined the music industry. Most of the works published by BEYOND from 1983 to 1993 were written and led by Wong Ka-kui. In addition to composing works for his own band, Wong also occasionally writes for other singers (such as Hui Guanjie, Alan Tam, Jimmy Mak, Faye Wong, Choi Xinglin, etc.). Huang Jiaju has a frank personality and dares to be angry and speak out! Therefore, people in the entertainment industry are sometimes dissatisfied. However, his decisive and talkative personality also made him a soul figure in BEYOND and led BEYOND to multiple peaks. After years of hard work, BEYOND has become the most important band in China Hong Kong. However, due to their disappointment with the corrupt Hong Kong music scene and the hope that the band could rush out of Hong Kong, BEYOND decided to develop in China Taiwan, Japan, Southeast Asia and other places. Since 1990, BEYOND has begun to develop in places such as China Taiwan and mainland China, and its popularity has gradually increased. In September 1991, BEYOND held five "Contact with Life" concerts at the Hung Hom Coliseum in Hong Kong. At this time, the Japanese manager company was interested in BEYOND and signed a contract with them to lead BEYOND to develop in Japan and other parts of Asia. At the end of the same year, they switched to Warner Records and began the Beyond Warner era. Huang Jiaju said this is because they want to have more freedom to play music. In 1992, BEYOND began to live in Japan for a long time and took on various jobs, including the game shows they were most reluctant to do. At first, they thought that Japan had greater freedom to make music than Hong Kong, but they still had to pretend to be "the little boy next door" to gain recognition from Japanese fans. Although their life in Japan was lonely, learning music there that was different from that in Hong Kong became the biggest driving force for BEYOND to play music in Japan. At this time, BEYOND's popularity in Japan has slowly increased, and it has also attracted a group of Japanese music fans. On June 24, 1993, BEYOND filmed the game show "Ucchan-nanchannoyarunarayaraneba" on Fuji TV in Tokyo, Japan. During the game "Treasure" process, the program host Mitsuro Uchimura (28 years old) and BEYOND's Huang Kaju (31 years old) fell to the ground respectively. Unfortunately, Huang Kaju fell to the ground first and fell into a coma, while Mitsuro Uchimura suffered only minor injuries and was not seriously injured. On June 30, 1993, Huang Jiaju, a musical genius of a generation, passed away in Tokyo, Japan at 16:15 pm (Japan time) at the age of 31. After the death of Wong Ka-kui, he still has a profound influence on young music fans in Hong Kong and even mainland China. Other members of Beyond also followed his legacy and released multiple albums in the band's name, which was not until 2005 that they officially announced their dissolution. Wong Ka-kui's contribution to the Hong Kong music scene has been recognized by the public. In the "Hong Kong Pop Singer" philatelic product series launched by Hong Kong Post on November 8, 2005, Wong Ka-kui became one of the singers who received tribute to the launch of the stamp (denomination HK$1.40). Radio Television Hong Kong also filmed a commemorative special "The Legend of the Undead: Wong Ka Kui" for him in 2007, which was broadcast on TVB Jade Channel on January 26, 2008. On May 10 of the same year, Hong Kong and Taiwan announced that they would broadcast "Wong Ka Kui's Death Album"(tentative name) during the "MadeInHongKong Li Zhigang" period on June 30 to commemorate Beyond's lead singer Wong Ka Kui, who died unexpectedly 15 years ago. After the death of Wong Ka Kui, the beyond band began to decline, but Ka Kui will always remain in our hearts
