Thirty years ago today, on December 21, 1995 (October 30, 1995 in the lunar calendar), the South Korean Public Prosecutor's Office sued Roh Tae-woo. Former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan was arrested by the South Korean prosecutors on December 3, 1995 and placed in a nursing prison on suspicion of masterminding the "December 12 military seizure" and the "May 17 military coup". Quan Doo-hwan, who served as the security commander of the National Army in 1979, joined forces with Lu Taiyu, commander of the 9th Division of the Army, and other young officers to take military action on December 12 of that year to detain the Army Chief of Staff Zheng Shenghe, occupy national defense, arrest the Minister of Defense, and seize military power. On May 18 of the following year, the "Gwangju Incident" occurred due to citizens 'opposition to Chun Doo-hwan's issuance of a national martial law, resulting in the deaths of 93 people. In August of the same year, Jeon was elected as the 11th President of South Korea. After his term ended in February 1988, he handed over the presidency to his confidant Roh Tae-woo. After Quan stepped down, he became a monk at Baitan Temple for more than a year to show his reflection. On December 21, 1995, the South Korean prosecutor charged Quanyou with six counts, including military rebellion and illegal mobilization of troops.
