Huang Mingtang got in touch with the Qing army guarding the fort and scheduled to let down a rope from the back of the mountain on the 2nd to take straight to the third fort. The uprising army, dressed in velvet antlers, plucked out uncarvings, crossed the broken stream and dangerous cliffs, and entered with shouts. The more than 100 garrison soldiers resisted briefly and surrendered. Then, the second fort and the first cannon platform were captured one after another. On the 3rd, Sun Yat-sen personally led Huang Xing, Hu Hanmin, Japanese Chi Hengji, retired French artillery captain Di Shi and others to board the fort. The whole army was encouraged and Huang Mingtang played a music to welcome him. The next day, the Qing army arrived and launched an attack. Sun Yat-sen bandaged the wounded at the position and fired artillery with his own hands. He shot very accurately. He said generously: "I have opposed the Qing government for more than 20 years, and now I have to personally launch artillery attacks on the Qing army!" In the afternoon of that day, Lu Rongting sent a woodcutter woman to take the stage with a letter, expressing her willingness to lead more than 600 people to join Sun Yat-sen's command, and telling her that the matter was extremely urgent and she prayed for self-respect. Sun Yat-sen decided to return to Hanoi to raise funds and equipment, and ordered Huang Mingtang to hold on for five days. Once the wages and equipment arrived, he would invade Longzhou. That night, Sun Yat-sen, Huang Xing and others went down the mountain back to Annan. On the 7th, the Military Aircraft Administration lost Zhang Mingqi from Zhennanguan to the "Handover Office" and ordered him to atone for his crime and make meritorious service "immediately."
