98 years ago today, on November 27, 1927 (November 4, 1927, the first conservatory of music in China was established. On November 27, 1927, the "National Conservatory of Music", the earliest new music institution of higher learning in China (now the Shanghai Conservatory of Music), was born. In October 1927, Cai Yuanpei, president of Nanjing National Government University, sent Dr. Xiao Youmei to Shanghai to build a National Conservatory of Music in accordance with his consistent advocacy of the educational purpose of "replacing religion with aesthetic education." Xiao Youmei is from Xiangshan, Guangdong (now Zhongshan City). As the composer of the national anthem (Qing Yunge) in the first year of the Republic of China, Xiao Youmei established the first music university in China based on the French "National Conservatory of Paris". Cai Yuanpei served concurrently as the dean. In December, Cai Yuanpei appointed Xiao Youmei, the academic director, to act as the dean due to the numerous official affairs of the university. In July 1929, at the order of the Nanjing government, the school was renamed the National Music Academy, and since then it has gradually become a famous music academy in China.
