On this day, 76 years ago, on December 15, 1949 (October 26, 1949 in the lunar calendar), the China People's Institute of Foreign Affairs was established. On December 15, 1949, the China People's Institute of Foreign Affairs held its inaugural meeting in Beijing. The conference elected Zhang Xiruo as chairman. First, the Chairman delivered a speech explaining the purpose of the establishment of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, which is mainly to unite people with research literacy in international issues or practical diplomatic experience across the country to study the theory and practice of diplomacy based on new scientific methods, discuss international issues, and popularize international knowledge and provide specific opinions on diplomacy to the Central People's Government to help realize China's new democratic foreign policy. Following the preparation process of Qian Duansheng's report and the explanation of the draft charter of the China People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, the draft charter was unanimously adopted after discussion and amendment. Then Zhou Enlai, Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State Council, attended the speech and explained the foreign policy of New Democracy in detail. The meeting was adjourned after the honorary president, president, vice president, secretary-general and board of directors were elected.
