Thirty years ago today, June 15, 1995 (May 18, 1995 in the lunar calendar), Russia quelled the Budenovsk riots. On June 15, 1995, in response to the riots in Budenovsk, President Yeltsin instructed the Russian law enforcement department to take urgent measures to restore legal order in the southern Russian city of Budenovsk. About 100 "unidentified" militants rushed into the city of Budenovsk in Stavropol Krai in two trucks during the day on the 14th, and once occupied the city's administrative building, telecommunications center and hospital. It was reported that the militants set up machine guns on the roofs of the administrative building and hospital and fired at residential buildings, and fired at crowds on the streets, causing dozens of casualties.
