Tan Dun graduated with honors from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the School of Art at Colombia University in New York in his early years, and received a master's degree in composition and a doctorate in music art. In the past 10 years, his music has been performed around the world, won the love of audiences and authoritative music critics from all over the world, and has had a great influence in international cultural exchanges. In 1995, he became the first Eastern composer in history to be hired as a permanent composer and conductor by the British BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
