On December 21, 1975, terrorists captured 11 oil ministers
Fifty years ago today, on December 21, 1975 (November 19, 1975 in the lunar calendar), terrorists captured 11 oil ministers. On December 21, 1975, a group of pro-Palestinian terrorists stormed the headquarters of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and captured 11 oil ministers. They then released the hostages because their demands for a jet plane were not met. Six terrorists opened fire into the conference hall of the World Petroleum Center in Vienna, killing three people and injuring eight others. But when they took the hostages, no one was hurt. They surrendered after a 37-hour stopover in Algiers en route. International terrorist Carlos was seen at Algiers airport. The terrorists claim to represent the "Arab Revolution" and propose that Palestine should have a share of the oil industry here. They also called for the eradication of American influence. The Palestine Liberation Organization has not admitted its involvement in the terrorist incident.
