On this day 209 years ago, on July 21, 1816 (June 27, 1816), Reuters founder Reuter was born. Paul Julius Reuter (1816-1899), founder of the world's first news agency, Reuters, was born on July 21, 1816 in Germany to Jewish parents. Working in a small publishing house in Berlin in the early 1840s. In 1849 Reuter founded the experimental news agency and in 1851 the Reuter Telegraph Company, a commercial news agency headquartered in London that supplied articles to banks, broker exchanges, and major commercial companies. The company grew steadily and in 1858 acquired the first newspaper, the London Morning Advertiser, as its client. In 1859 he succeeded in sending the original text of Napoleon III's speech foreshadowing the Austrian-French war in Italy to London. Reuters became a joint stock company in 1915. The extension of submarine cables allowed Reuters to expand its business to other continents (outside Europe). In the late 1970s, 28 newspapers in the United States subscribed to Reuters news. Reuters was made a baron in 1871 and retired in 1878.
