On December 6, 1985, Tan Guansan, an outstanding political worker of our army and former adviser to the Chengdu Military Region, died in Chengdu due to illness. Tan Guansan, a native of Leiyang County, Hunan Province, was born in 1901. He joined the Communist Youth League in 1926 and became a full member of the Communist Party of China in the same year. He was one of the organizers of our party's early peasant armed struggle in southern Hunan. He participated in the Autumn Harvest Uprising, the Southern Hunan Uprising, the Jinggangshan Struggle and the 25,000-mile Long March. During the Anti-Japanese War and the Third Revolutionary Civil War, Tan Guansan served successively as Secretary Section Chief of the Anti-Japanese War, Deputy Director of the Political Department of the Hebei Military Region and the Political Department of the Third Column, Political Commissar of the First Subdistrict and Political Commissar of the Seventh Detachment of the Hebei Military Region, Political Commissar of the Hebei Central and Southern Advance Detachment, Director of the Political Department of the Hebei Column, Secretary of the Runan Working Committee, Secretary of the Henan, Anhui and Suzhou Eighth Prefectural Committee and Political Commissar of the Subdistrict, and Political Commissar of the Army, etc., making important contributions to the cause of liberation of the China people. In the early days of the founding of New China, Tan Guansan was ordered to lead his troops into Xizang. He served as political commissar of the Xizang Military Region, second secretary of the Xizang Military Region Committee of the Communist Party of China, second secretary of the Xizang Working Committee, and secretary of the Supervisory Committee. At the end of 1966, Tan Guansan was transferred to the position of First Vice President and First Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Supreme People's Court. In 1955, he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general. He was elected as a representative of the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Eighth National Congress of the Communist Party of China and a member of the Standing Committee of the Fourth and Fifth National Committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
