68 years ago today, on September 29, 1957 (August 6, 1957, the lunar calendar), New China built its first planetarium. On September 29,1957, Beijing Planetarium, the first planetarium in China, was built. More than 600 people including Vice Premier Chen Yi of the State Council, Minister of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee Lu Dingyi, and famous astronomer Cheng Maolan attended the opening ceremony. Construction of the Beijing Planetarium started in the autumn of 1955 with the help of experts from the Democratic Republic of Germany. The museum has a planetarium, exhibition hall, lecture hall, small observatory and small meteorological observatory.
