On July 18, 1998 (May 25, 1998), China Unicom broke the monopoly of China Telecom. China United Communications Co., Ltd., Chairperson Chang Xiaobing, July 18, 1998 - China Unicom broke the monopoly position of China Telecom, China United Communications Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "China Unicom"), approved by the State Council, established on July 19, 1994, the only comprehensive telecommunications operator in our country that can provide comprehensive telecommunications basic services. The main business scope includes: mobile communication services (including GSM and CDMA), domestic and international long-distance telephone services (access number 193), approved local telephone services, data communication services, Internet services (access number 16500), IP telephone services (access number 19710/17911), satellite communication services, telecommunications value-added services, and other telecommunications services related to the main business. On June 21 and 22, 2006, it was successfully listed in Hong Kong and New York respectively, entered the operation of international capital markets, and became a Hong Kong Hengsheng index stock within one year. It marks that China Unicom has achieved phased results in fully integrating with international standards. More than 300 branches and 11 subsidiaries established under the new mechanism are located in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and Macao Special Administrative Region, providing a solid guarantee for services. It is an important state-owned backbone enterprise directly managed by the central government. On May 23, 2008, China Unicom will split the dual network, in which the CDMA network will be merged into China Telecom, and the GSM network will be retained with China Netcom to form a new Unicom Group. Comments: The emergence of China Unicom has broken the monopoly of telecommunications. After many years of operation, the telecommunications industry has now been restructured, hoping to truly break the monopoly, promote competition, and establish an orderly competition situation.
