The first high Reynolds number wind tunnel was completed on November 8, 1993
Thirty-two years ago today, on November 8, 1993 (September 25, 1993 lunar calendar), the first high Reynolds number wind tunnel was built. On November 8, 1993, the first high Reynolds number transonic two-dimensional wind tunnel in our country was recently built at the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences., This equipment is in an international leading position on the comprehensive level. High Reynolds number transonic wind tunnel is an indispensable ground test equipment in the development of aircraft. The main simulation parameters of aircraft aerodynamic tests are flight Mach number and Reynolds number. Although conventional transonic wind tunnels can simulate Mach number, its Reynolds number is 1-2 orders of magnitude lower than the actual flight value. Because many aerodynamic phenomena in actual flight are very sensitive to the change of Reynolds number, some aircraft designed according to the experimental data of conventional transonic wind tunnels often have problems. The Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences built the first high Reynolds number transonic two-dimensional tube wind tunnel in our country in five years, which laid a solid technical foundation for our country to study advanced airfoils and build transonic tube wind tunnels with higher Reynolds number and larger size.
