After the Sino-French War, the rulers of the Qing Dynasty, in order to collect opium taxes, were induced by the United Kingdom to negotiate in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, on March 27, 1887. Accordingly, on December 1, the Prime Minister's Yamen Minister Yi Yu and the Portuguese Plenipotentiary Luo Sha signed the Treaty of Sino-Portuguese Peace and Trade in Beijing, that is, the Sino-Portuguese Treaty of Beijing. A total of 54 articles. The main contents are as follows: 1. China still allows Portugal to permanently reside and manage Macao and its territories; 2. Portugal will send envoys to Beijing and set up consuls at trade ports; 3. Portugal will obtain consular jurisdiction; 4. Portuguese people can enjoy the trade privileges that China has given or will give to other countries, and have the right to live, rent and buy land, build houses, and establish churches at trade ports. In 1928, the Chinese government declared that this agreement was invalid.
