Guangzhou Shamian Workers' Strike Ends Victory Against British Imperialist Oppression

strike
The Shamian workers 'strike refers to a workers' strike movement in Shamian, Guangzhou in 1924. From July 15 to August 17, Guangzhou Shamian workers held a general strike under the leadership of the Party to wage a resolute struggle against British imperialism. The victory was achieved when British imperialism was forced to cancel police laws.
Shamian was a lease in Guangzhou by modern British imperialism. In July 1924, the British imperialists promulgated a new police law on Shamian, stipulating that starting from August 1, all Chinese servants in Shamian must carry a license to enter and exit, and the owner's photo must be posted on the photos. After 9 o'clock every night, Chinese people do not carry a license. They cannot enter the country twice. This is a great humiliation imposed on the Chinese nation!
Strike passed
On July 15, 1924, Guangzhou Shamian workers went on strike under the leadership of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.
On June 30, under the pretext of the assassination of the French governor in Vietnam, the imperialist authorities in the Shamian Concession announced the implementation of the "New Police Law," which stipulated that from August 1 onwards, Chinese entering and leaving Shamian must carry passports with their employer's photos, while Europeans, Japanese, Indians and Vietnam were free to enter and leave. The Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, through the Executive Committee of the Guangzhou Workers 'Representative Conference, led Shamian workers to declare a strike and resolutely demanded the cancellation of the "New Police Law."
The progressive trade unions in Guangzhou held strikes to support the workers, and the Shamian Chinese police also held strikes to support the workers. On the 20th, the Second Executive Committee of the Beijing Anti-Imperialist League passed motions to assist the Guangzhou Shamian workers in striking and fundraising to support the workers. The workers persisted in the struggle for more than a month, finally forcing the imperialists to cancel the "New Police Law".
The victory of this strike effectively dealt a blow to the arrogance of imperialism, demonstrated the powerful strength of the working class in China, and enhanced the prestige of the Communist Party among the masses. After the sandface strike, strikes occurred continuously everywhere and gradually formed an upsurge.
