On December 15, 1961, Nazi Eichmann was sentenced to death in Israel
Sixty-four years ago today, on December 15, 1961 (November 8, 1961 in the lunar calendar), the Nazi Eichmann was sentenced to death in Israel. On December 15, 1961, Adolf Eichmann was not pardoned. An Israeli court decided that the former Nazi did not deserve pardon at all. Today, in Jerusalem, the head of the SS Jewish division was sentenced to death by hanging for his part in the killing of millions of Jews. Eichmann was convicted of anti-Semitism. He was captured by Israeli agents in Argentina in 1960. The execution judge declared him guilty of 1,000 counts of premeditated murder, each time he sent a train with 1,000 Jews to a death camp. Eichmann was pale, but stood up defiantly. He rejected the verdict on the grounds that it was unfair. He acknowledged the frenzied persecution of Jews, but he said it was simply carrying out the orders of political leaders.
