On this day, 35 years ago, on October 30, 1990 (September 13, 1990, the Anglo-French Cross-Harbour Tunnel was dug. At 7:30 pm on October 30, 1990, the undersea tunnel was dug through the English Channel (called the Channel of La Manche in France), realizing the first connection between Britain and the European continent in history. British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said it was "an extremely exciting moment." The tunnel dug this time is a service tunnel in the Anglo-French Channel Tunnel Project. The entire project consists of two train tunnels with a diameter of 7.6 meters each and a service tunnel with a diameter of 4.8 meters. The service tunnel built this time is expected to be completed in four weeks and will be passable by mid-January next year. It will also provide geological data for the other two tunnels to be built next summer. It took more than three years to build this service tunnel. According to the Straits Tunnel Treaty signed by the British and French governments in July 1987, the Straits Tunnel will be officially put into use in June 1993. By then, it will take only 35 minutes to cross the English Channel. News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/15l4.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.27-13:53] 访问:74
