November 10, 1934: Kuomintang troops occupied the Central Soviet Area
On this day, 91 years ago, November 10, 1934 (October 4, 1934, the Kuomintang army occupied the Central Soviet Area. On November 1, 1934, the 9th Division of the Kuomintang Army occupied Changting, Fujian, and then advanced towards Ruijin. On the 10th, the Kuomintang army occupied Ruijin. On the 20th, the Kuomintang government of Jiangxi Province designated Ruijin, Huichang, Yudu, Xingguo, Ningdu and Shicheng counties as "special political districts." On the 21st, in order to "excite the masses in the Soviet area and enhance their confidence," the Central Branch of the Communist Party of China gathered the 24th Red Division and the two independent battalions of Ruijin and Huichang in Xiefang, Huichang, to ambush the 3rd Division of the Kuomintang Army on the East Road and annihilate half of its brigade. The Kuomintang army mobilized four divisions to find a decisive battle between the 24th Red Division, and the Red Army fell into a more difficult situation. On the 23rd, the Kuomintang army occupied Huichang. At this point, the entire central red base area fell. After the Kuomintang army occupied the Central Soviet Area, it immediately carried out white terror. 18,000 people were killed in Ruijin, 4800 people in Ningdu, 2100 people in Xingguo, and 3000 people in Yudu. About 800,000 people were killed throughout the Central Soviet Area. Everywhere in the Soviet area, the countryside was deserted and sparsely populated.
