119 years ago today, June 2, 1906 (April 11, 1906, the lunar calendar) was the birthday of Cai Yi, a famous aesthetician in my country. Cai Yi was originally named Cai Nanguan. Born on June 2, 1906 in You County, Hunan Province. In 1925, he entered the B Department of Peking University Preparatory Education. In 1929, he traveled east to Japan to study and came into contact with Marxist literary and artistic theory. He returned to China on the eve of the July 7th Incident in 1937 and participated in the Anti-Japanese and National Salvation Movement. In 1938, he worked in the Hunan Cultural Anti-Enemy Rescue Association. Since 1939, the Third Hall of the General Political Department of the National Revolutionary Army and the Cultural Work Committee under the leadership of Guo Moruo have been engaged in propaganda and research against the enemy. In 1942, he wrote "On New Art" and began to write "New Aesthetics" in the winter of the same year. In 1945, he edited the monthly magazine "Youth Knowledge". In 1946, he taught at Shanghai Daxia University and Hangzhou Art College. At the end of 1948, he went to the Jiefang District of North China. In January 1949, he taught in the Department of Chinese Literature of the Second Department of North China University. In 1950, he was transferred to the Central Academy of Fine Arts to serve as professor and deputy director of the research department, and later served as deputy provost. In October 1953, he was transferred to the Institute of Literature of China Academy of Sciences as a researcher and leader of the Literary Theory Group. During this period, he served as director of China Artists Association, director of China Writers Association, standing editorial board member of "Literary Research", and editor-in-chief of "Literary Theory Translation Collection" and "Classical Literary Theory Translation Collection". His literary and artistic theories and aesthetic monographs include: "Brief Introduction to Literature","Speech on the History of New Literature in China","Criticism of Idealism Aesthetics","On Realism Issues","Discussion Collection","Preliminary Compilation of Esthetics Works", editor-in-chief of "Literary Naron" and "Aesthetic Principles".
