105 years ago today, on June 22, 1920 (May 7, 1920 in the lunar calendar), Wu Peifu requested the dissolution of the Anfu Family. On the afternoon of June 22, 1920, Zhang Zuolin, together with representatives from Jiangsu, Hubei, Jiangxi, Henan, Sui, Cha, Xinjiang and other provinces, drove to Baoding for consultations with Cao Kun. That night, Zhang Zuolin, Cao Kun, Wu Peifu and provincial representatives met to discuss solutions to the current situation. Wu Peifu spoke in tough terms. He said: "As a soldier, Peifu enjoys the salary of the country and the responsibility of protecting the country. He is hard to resign. Although his soldiers dare not call themselves trained and controlled troops, they also understand righteousness."If the Anfu system" disregards the country and only tries to undermine the overall situation, although Peifu can tolerate it, he is afraid of his subordinates 'anger, but it will be difficult to suppress it." He advocated: first, the dissolution of the Anfu system; second, the removal of Xu Shuzheng's border envoy and his military power; third, the removal of Wang Yitang, the general representative of the Shanghai Peace Conference, and the three chief chiefs of finance, transportation, and justice of Beijing should be dismissed. Representatives from various provinces also spoke one after another, discussed the results, and decided on five methods: (1) Jin Yunpeng's reinstatement; (2) The cabinet was partially reshuffled, replacing the three chief chiefs of the Anfu Secretaries, and supplementing the three chief chiefs of foreign affairs, agriculture, commerce, and education;(3) replacing the general representative of Wang Yi and Tang Peace Council, canceling the Shanghai Peace Council, and allowing direct negotiations between the central government and the southwest;(4) Dissolving the Anfu Secretaries;(5) Dissolving Xu Shuzheng's military power and abolishing the border envoy's official system. After reorganization, the Border Guard was placed under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of War. Zhang Zuolin agreed with the first three articles, but did not agree with the last two articles. He believed that he came to Beijing to take on the responsibility of mediation and did not want to go to extremes. In order to avoid expanding the dispute and not embarrass Xu Shichang, he decided to act accordingly after returning to Beijing.
