On October 3, 1992, the "Genetically Engineered Rice Research" project chaired by Wan Wenju and others from Hunan Agricultural College introduced corn DNA into rice for the first time and bred high-yield and high-quality rice lines. Since hybrid rice was put into production in the 1970s, scientific and technological workers have successively carried out the "two-line method", inter-subspecies hybridization and ultra-high breeding in order to cultivate more optimized rice varieties, and made great progress. However, To fundamentally unify multiple ears, large ears and high seed setting rates, we must start from biotechnology and follow the path of genetic engineering breeding. Since 1989, the "Genetically Engineered Rice Research" research group of Hunan Agricultural College has used the DNA immersion embryo method to introduce corn DNA based on molecular breeding theory and technology, and has obtained a large number of mutant progeny materials, laying the foundation for further research. Through multiple generations of breeding, they found a basically stable GER·1 line, which has the characteristics of strong tillering, large ears and many grains. The average is about 200 grains per ear, the seed setting rate reaches 80%, and the rice quality is excellent. This strain is suitable for planting as mid-season and late rice in Hunan.
