On this day, 357 years ago, July 25, 1668 (June 17, 1668, the lunar calendar), a magnitude 8.5 earthquake occurred in Tancheng, Shandong. The tombstone of Zoujiazhuang, Ju County, Shandong Province was damaged by an earthquake-relics of the Tancheng earthquake on the evening of July 25, 1668 AD (At 00:00 on June 17, the seventh year of Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty), a devastating earthquake occurred in Tancheng, Shandong Province. More than 410 counties in more than 10 provinces in East and North China, and even more than 500 county and local chronicles, inscriptions, poems, etc. The earthquake has been recorded in detail, including damage records in more than 150 counties. It is the most detailed and rich historical records in history. The area most severely affected by this earthquake was the junction of Tancheng, Linyi and Linshu today. According to "Kangxi Tancheng County Annals" records,"Kangxi seven years on June 17 when the earthquake, sound from the northwest, a building trees are bent forward and backward, to the top of the ground even two or three times, one by one toppling that is, tower stacks, official houses, houses and villages, temples are collapsed as flat as the ground,… At that time, the ground cracked and springs gushed upward, two or three feet high, flowing water everywhere, the ditches would be full, and they would disappear in time. People standing on the ground were like stepping on round stones, shaking and shaking, unable to stand up. The situation would sink in time and settle down in time. About hundreds of thousands of houses collapsed in the pavilion. The cracks were either wide or deep, and they were all like classes and layers. There were silt and fine sand on both sides of the cracks. It was difficult to describe the depth and narrow shape of the depression. It was really an unprecedented disaster." In addition, most of Shandong, Jiangsu, northern Anhui and so on suffered varying degrees of damage. This earthquake was the only 8.5-magnitude earthquake in eastern my country and one of the three 8.5-magnitude earthquakes in China (the other two were the 8.5-magnitude earthquake in Haiyuan, Ningxia on December 16, 1920 and the 8.5-magnitude earthquake in Chayu, Xizang on November 18, 1950), killing about 50,000 people.
