Weng Dujian (1906 - 1986) was a famous historian and educator. His original name was Weng Xianhua. A native of Fuqing County, Fujian Province. In 1928, he entered the History Department of Yanjing University in Peking to study. He went to the United States to study in 1935, received a doctorate from Harvard University in 1938, and entered the University of Paris for further study in the same year. He returned to China in 1939 and successively served as professors at Yunnan University, Peking China University, Yanjing University and other universities. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he was elected as a member of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He has served successively as acting president of Yanjing University, director of the Beijing Municipal Education Bureau, member of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and deputy chairman of the Steering Committee for Ethnic History Research., vice chairman of the China Society for Ethnic Studies, consultant of the China Federation of Ethnic Research Organizations, researcher, deputy director and consultant of the Institute of Ethnic Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Appreciation. Director of the China Border History and Geography Research Center of China Academy of Social Sciences, Director of the History Department of the Central University for Nationalities (1956 - 1966), Director of the Research Department, Executive Director and Chairman of China Historical Society, Chairman and Honorary Chairman of China Mongolian History Society, Honorary President of China Yuan History Research Society, Vice Chairman of the International Association for Central Asian Cultural Studies, etc. In his early years, he specialized in Mongolian and Yuan history and made outstanding achievements in the research of Mongolian and Yuan history. He and the late Mr. Han Rulin and Shao Xunzheng each made pioneering achievements to push the study of Mongolian and Yuan history in my country to a new stage. His works published in the 1940s, such as "New History of the Yuan Dynasty, A Revision of Aixue's Biography of the Mengwu 'er Historical Records","Wotuo Zakao","Compilation of Codes in the Mongolian Era", and "Collection of Translation Languages of the Yuan Laws", are full of historical materials, incisive discussions, and concise writing. They are all groundbreaking studies of Mongolian history and enjoy a high reputation at home and abroad. He has been successively employed as the editorial board of "Chinese History Small Series", deputy post on the editorial board of "Five Series on Ethnic Issues", the editorial board of the volume "Encyclopedia of China·Nationality" and editor-in-chief of ethnic history, the editor-in-chief of the national history Dictionary of Chinese History, deputy chairman of the editorial board of the National Geodestic Atlas "Chinese Historical Atlas", the editorial board of the ethnic fascicle of "Cihai", and the editor-in-chief of the "Outline of the History of Chinese Ethnic Relations", a key scientific research project of the "Sixth Five-Year Plan. He presided over the collation of nearly 2.7 million words of "Yuan History" and collated more than a thousand errors, making it the best edition to date. He also organized the translation and proofreading of Vladimir Mirtsov's "History of Mongolian Social Systems", Ratot's "History Collection", Zhifini's "History of the Conquerors of the World" and "Notes on the Acts of Marco Polo", and presided over the revision and writing of "A Brief History of the Mongolian Nationality" and edited "Quan Yuan Poetry". Weng Dujian attaches great importance to talent training. During his tenure as director of the Beijing City Education Bureau, he devoted himself to developing primary and secondary education. Has trained a number of doctoral, master's degree students and scientific research, teaching staff. Joined the Communist Party of China in November 1979.
