The Republic of Texas is incorporated into the United States, becoming the 28th state of the United States

The Texas State.
On December 29, 1845, the Republic of Texas was merged into the United States, becoming the 28th state of the United States, Texas.
The Republic of Texas (1836-1845), formerly known as the "Lone Star Republic", covered the present-day state of Texas and parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Kansas.
There were two conflicting political factions within the republic. One was the nationalist faction, led by Mihab B. Lamar, who advocated Texas' continued independence and expansion into the Pacific Ocean. The opposite faction, led by Sam Houston, advocated the merger of Texas with the United States and peaceful coexistence with the United States and local Americans. In 1845, the United States Congress passed a resolution inviting the Republic of Texas to join the United States as a state. President Taylor signed the resolution on March 1, 1845, just three days after he ended his presidency and James Polk entered the White House as the eleventh president of the United States. Britain and France tried to prevent Texas from becoming an American state, demanding that Mexico agree to Texas' independence if Texas did not join the United States. Texas faced two choices: either become a state of the United States or an independent republic recognized by Mexico. Texas Congress chose to join the United States and become a state of the United States.
Key words: December 29, 1845, Texas, United States
