Alaric

From 376 to 568, the historical process of "barbarian" tribes scattered outside the Roman Empire, mainly Germanic, forcibly immigrating into the Empire on a large scale and establishing their own countries. The reason for the great ethnic migration was the disintegration of the Germanic people's primitive commune system, and tribal dignitaries, military leaders and personal soldiers were eager to plunder new land and wealth. The natural growth of population put pressure on productivity. In order to develop the animal husbandry economy, most Germanic people had to migrate to other places. The crisis of Roman slavery and the decline of the empire made it impossible to resist foreign invasion, resulting in the armed migration of "barbarians" deep into the heart of the empire. The trigger that directly promoted the great migration was the Huns 'invasion of an Ostrogoths of the Germanic nation in 375.

After the spring of 376, another group of Visigoths of the Germanic nation was attacked by the Huns. They received the permission of the Roman emperor to cross the Danube as "allies" and migrate to Thrace in the northern Balkans, which was the beginning of the great migration of the nation. The following year, the Visigoths, unable to bear the oppression of Roman officials, revolted. In August 378, the Roman army was defeated at Adriatic Fort, and Emperor Wallings was killed. In 395, Theodosius I died, and the Roman Empire was divided; the Visigoths rebelled under the leadership of Alaric (395-410), and went south to Greece and west to Italy. On the evening of August 24, 410, Rome was captured. Alaric left Rome on the 27th and headed south in order to capture Sicily and North Africa, the granaries of the Roman Empire. He died shortly afterwards. The Visigoths then returned to the north, crossed the Alps, and occupied southwest Gaul. In 418, the Visigothic kingdom was established with Toulouse as the center.
