Twenty-eight years ago today, on December 7, 1997 (November 8, 1997), New York held a concert to commemorate the compatriots who died in the Nanjing Massacre. On December 7, 1997, New York "Federation of Compatriots Commemorating the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre" and other groups held a "Sing for Peace" concert to commemorate the innocent Chinese people who died under the butcher knife of the Japanese invaders in Nanjing 60 years ago, reminding the world to forget history. This large-scale concert with more than 300 people on stage was held at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York. The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Chinese Musicians Association and the Taipei "Post Choir" were invited to perform on the same stage with overseas Chinese living in the United States, expressing the common desire of Chinese people around the world to learn from history, defend peace, oppose war, and build the future. The famous Chinese conductor Xu Xiyi and the Filipino Chinese female conductor You Meiwen served as the conductor of the evening. More than 2,000 spectators of different skin colors listened to famous songs reflecting the heroic resistance of the Chinese people and their yearning for a better life, including "The Red River", "Guerrilla Song", "Ballad of the Great Wall", "Song of Peace", "The Sea, Hometown" and so on. The famous bass singer Tian Haojiang's "On the Songhua River" resonated strongly with the audience, and the audience sang in unison on and off the stage. The famous composer Jin Xiang also composed and directed the performance of the chorus "Jinling Festival", which recounts the Nanjing Massacre, for the concert. The lyrics end: "The bell inspires the descendants of the Yellow Dynasty to unite and forge ahead to meet the dawn of the new century." The concert kicked off the commemoration of the December 13, 1937 massacre in Nanjing, China, by the Japanese invaders.
