On September 16, 1856, Du Wenxiu of Yunnan led the Hui Uprising
On this day, 169 years ago, on September 16, 1856 (August 18, 1856, the lunar calendar), Du Wenxiu in Yunnan led the Hui uprising. The picture shows Du Wenxiu's tomb Du Wenxiu (1823 - 1872), a Hui native of Yongchang, Yunnan Province, China. September 16, 1856-Du Wenxiu in Yunnan led the Hui uprising and captured Dali, claiming to be the President's Marshal. In 1856, Du Wenxiu called on the Hui people to resist the Qing regime in Menghua, Yunnan, on the grounds of corruption and indiscriminate killing of Qing government officials. In addition, he also joined forces with local Han people and other ethnic groups to participate in the anti-Qing struggle. After the incident, he captured Dali and other 50 cities in Yunnan, facing Ma Rulong, who occupied Kunming. Soon, he established Pingnan and served as Grand Marshal. In 1867, Ma Rulong surrendered to Cen Yuying of the Qing Dynasty, but Du Wenxiu turned to attack Kunming and failed. Since then, the situation has reversed. In 1869, the Qing army counterattacked, and Du Wenxiu's army turned into defeat. In 1872, Du Wenxiu committed suicide by taking poison in Dali City. Because Du Wenxiu was born as a farmer, he was positively evaluated and commemorated after the founding of the People's Republic of China in the 1950s, so there are many commemorative cultural relics in Yunnan. Comments: Another hero who led the people to resist oppression.
