Breaking-News >> TodayHistory The Shang Dynasty tomb was discovered in the Ganjiang River Basin on November 17, 1990
On this day, 35 years ago, on November 17, 1990 (October 1, 1990, the Shang Dynasty tomb was discovered in the Ganjiang River Basin. On November 17, 1990, Xinhua Agency reported: In 1973, the Shang Dynasty residential site in Wucheng, Jiangxi, which caused a shock in the archaeological community, was only the beginning of Shang Dynasty archaeology in Jiangxi. Sixteen years later, another major discovery of the late Shang Dynasty tomb was made in Oceania Township, Xingan County, only 20 kilometers away. This "First Tomb of the Shang Dynasty in Jiangnan" was discovered on September 20, 1989 by local villagers taking sand and building an embankment. Judging from the excavation signs, there were originally one coffin and one coffin in the tomb. The coffin is 8.22 meters long and the coffin is 2.34 meters long. Their widths are 3.6 meters and 0.85 meters respectively. The owner of the tomb has only some teeth stained with patina, but the burial objects in the tomb are extremely rich. According to statistics, there are more than 480 bronzes in the tomb alone, including tripods, tomes and other important ceremonial instruments, common weapons such as knives, spears, knives, and swords, and agricultural tools such as shovels, harrows, and spurs. In addition, there are more than 300 pottery articles and more than 100 jade, agate, crystal and turquoise ornaments in the tomb. The Jiangnan area before the Shang and Zhou Dynasties has always been regarded as a place where the "Southern Wild Manchuria" was used in the archaeological community, and it lacked achievements in the ancient civilization of the Chinese nation. But the discovery of this Shang Dynasty tomb is refreshing. Among the unearthed cultural relics, the shapes and patterns of some bronzes and jade articles have obvious traces of the bronze culture of the Central Plains. However, the shapes, patterns and casting techniques of many utensils show strong local characteristics. The band-shaped swallowtail patterns commonly found on the surface of utensils and the tiger-shaped sculptures with strong realism on the attachments of utensils are unique in the bronze culture of the Shang Dynasty. In addition, the unearthed short swords, hand axes and plows are unprecedented in Shang tombs in the north. In particular, the discovery of bronze plows pushed the history of plowing in my country from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Shang Dynasty. After research by nationally renowned bronze experts from China Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Shanghai Museum and other units, they believed that as long as 3000 years ago, the Ganjiang River and Poyang Lake basins had a highly developed bronze culture, and there was a slave regime that developed in parallel with the Shang and Yin dynasties. The owner of the tomb was most likely the supreme ruler of this country. This major breakthrough in the archaeology of Jiangnan in my country will rewrite the history of the ancient civilization of the Chinese nation.
