On this day, 118 years ago, on July 29, 1907 (June 20, 1907), the Englishman Robert Baden Powell launched the Boy Scouting Movement. Robert Baden Powell July 29, 1907. The famous British general Baron Baden-Powell recruited 12 upper-class and 29 lower-class teenagers and spent two weeks in the forest on the Brown Sea Island in Poole Harbour. The general organized the trip as a field experiment for his short essay "Boy Scouts: A Proposal". His plan was to develop in the children a sense of community and chivalry. Help build the next generation and develop their strong physique. No matter what class or sect they belong to, they can become good citizens both at home and in the colonies. Under the guidance of Baron Baden-Powell, children will be educated in the camp, learning shooting, scouting, tracking, life saving, first aid and way finding in the woods. Four scout teams will also compete in the game to test their acquired knowledge of skills. The idea for scouting came about during a meeting between Baden and Thompson Seton, author of Birch Paper.
