The British army looted Guangzhou, and the people of Sanyuanli bravely fought against the invaders. History is called "Sanyuanli Anti-British"

The spontaneous armed anti-British struggle of the people of Guangzhou during the Opium War. On May 25, 1841 (the fifth day of April in the twenty-first year of Daoguang), the British army captured the artillery emplacements in the north of Guangzhou City and set up its headquarters at Yongkang Terrace, which is the highest terrain. Yongkang Taiwan is also known as Sifangtai, which is only one mile away from the city, and the cannons can be directly bombarded into the city. The commander of the Qing army, Yishan, and others were afraid and demanded peace. On May 27, they signed the "Guangzhou Peace Treaty" with the British, in order to pay the British army's ransom fee and the withdrawal of troops from other provinces from Guangzhou, in exchange for the British army returning the battery and withdrawing from Humen. But before the ink was dry from the peace treaty, the British army continued to disturb the northwestern suburbs of Sanyuanli and the villages of Nicheng, Xicun, and Xiaogang, looting, burning, and On the 29th, the villagers of Sanyuanli repelled a small group of British troops who had invaded. The next day, the South China Sea and Panyu more than 100 villages were armed with spears, plows and hoes, and they besieged Yongkangtai. Nearly half a day of stalemate, the British commander Wo Wugu (Guo Fu) personally led the attack. The regiment practiced and fought and retreated, luring the enemy to the hilly area of Niulangang. When the rain came suddenly, the British muskets could not be fired due to moisture. The people of the regiment fought back in the rain, dividing and encircling the British army, and fighting hand-to-hand. A company of the British army was wiped out several times, and the rest fled back to the battery. In the early morning of the 31st, the handicraft workers in Guangzhou and the nearby counties such as Ruhua County, Zengcheng, Conghua and other places also came one after another. The Wo Wugu did not dare to fight again, and instead threatened the government, threatening to break the contract and attack the city. Yishan and others panicked when they heard the news, and urgently sent Yu Baochun, the governor of Guangzhou, out of the city to appease the British army first, and then led the two county magistrates of Panyu and Nanhai to put pressure on the gentry in the regiment. The gentry dodged, and the regiment gradually dispersed, and the Taiwan siege was relieved
