Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On June 2, 1857, Shi Dakai left Tianjing
On this day, 168 years ago, on June 2, 1857 (May 11, 1857 in the lunar calendar), Shi Dakai left Tianjing. In early September 1856, an uprising broke out in Tianjing of the Taiping Rebellion, and Wei Changhui, the Northern King, killed Yang Xiuqing, the Eastern King. King Shi Dakai of Yi returned to Beijing under the imperial edict. Wei wanted to kill Shi. Shi Dakai fled in Lucheng and his family was killed. Shi mobilized an army to attack Wei in Anqing. King Hong Xiuquan killed Wei and summoned Shi Renjing to assist the government. Shi Dakai arrived in Beijing and was granted the title of "King Yi, the commander of the Electric Division and the Army" to manage government affairs. Because Hong Xiuquan was suspicious of Shi Dakai, he reused his eldest brothers Hong Renfa and Hong Renda and suppressed Shi Shishi. On June 2, 1857 (May 11, the seventh year of Xianfeng of the Qing Dynasty), Shi Dakai fled Tianjing and led his troops away from Beijing. Notices were posted along the way, encouraging the military and civilians to "follow the general, but also mark the founding fathers." Soon after, Hong Xiuquan cut off his two brothers 'royal titles and sent them to the gold medals engraved with King Yi, expressing his abandonment of the past and attaching a petition for help from the civil and military officials of the entire court. Shi Dakai ignored it and took away about 100,000 elite troops from Anhui and Jiangxi to act independently, dispersing the military strength of the Taiping Rebellion.
