On this day, 28 years ago, October 29, 1997 (September 28, 1997 in the lunar calendar), the Iraq weapons inspection crisis eased. Members of the United Nations weapons inspection team returning to Iraq On October 29, 1997, the Iraq authorities announced that they would ban Americans on the United Nations weapons inspection team from operating in their territory and limited them to withdraw from Iraq within one week. The United States has taken a tough attitude towards this and threatened with force to send additional aircraft carriers and combat aircraft to the Gulf. Iraq threatened to shoot down a U.S. reconnaissance plane flying over Iraq and was determined to fight back against the invading enemy. The situation in the Gulf suddenly became tense.
