On June 29, 1906, revolutionaries and progressives in Shanghai gathered at the gate of the Western Prison to welcome Zhang Binglin out of prison. On June 30, 1903, Zhang Binglin was arrested for the "Su Bao" case and has been imprisoned for three years. He has reached the age of 37. In prison, he wrote articles to reporters, rebuked the Qing government, and declared himself the representative of 40,000 million people. He went on a hunger strike for seven days to protest the brutal abuse and abuse of the jailers, and at the same time studied Buddhism. Zou Rong, who was imprisoned at the same time as him, died in prison. On the day of his release from prison, Cai Yuanpei, Ye Han, Jiang Weiqiao, and Sun Yat-sen's representatives, Gong Lianbai, Shi Gongjiu, Hu Guoliang, and Qiu Liang, welcomed him to the Chinese Public School. The headquarters of the Tokyo Alliance also sent people to welcome him eastward. Hong Kong's "China Daily", "There Are So-called Newspapers" and other newspapers sent messages of condolences and tributes. That night, Zhang Binglin boarded the ship to Japan. Also on this day, Cai Yuanpei, Jiang Weiqiao, Yan Lianru, Liu San, and Huang Yanpei held a meeting at the Jiangsu Society to discuss the construction cost of Zou Rong's tomb.
