On this day 47 years ago, July 26, 1978 (June 22, 1978 lunar calendar), the first IVF was born in London. The world's first IVF Louise Brown The world's first IVF baby was born on July 25, 1978. It was the child of a London couple Leslie-Brown and her husband John. The baby weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces and was delivered by cesarean section at Oldheim Central Hospital. She was named Louise and everything was normal. Due to Mrs. Brown's faulty fallopian tubes, she could not conceive. Dr. Robert-G-Edward and Patrick-C-Steptoe were two pioneers in researching the so-called IVF technique. The pair surgically removed egg cells from the ovaries, placed them on experimental plates to combine with sperm, and then implanted the embryos in Leslie Brown's uterus, where the anal fetus developed normally. The birth of the Browns' baby was the first success for Steptoe and Edward. The two have been working on this technique for 12 years and have failed many times.
