August 3, 1943 Stilwell seeks to quickly build the "British-British Joint Assault Corps"
82 years ago today, on August 3, 1943 (July 3, 1943 lunar calendar), Stilwell tried to quickly establish the "Sino-British Joint Commando Regiment". The Chinese Expeditionary Force in India was training for long-distance marching. In August 1943, General Marshall of the United States transferred a volunteer commando team of more than 3,000 people to Lieutenant General Stilwell, the chief of staff of the Chinese Theater. It was code-named "The Robbers" Detachment, officially "the 527th Regiment of the United States Army" and code-named "G-Army". The team was trained by the British in Western India and commanded by Major General Wingert, the commander of the British Long-Range Commando, which made Stilwell deeply dissatisfied. Marshall tried his best to reassure and agreed that American soldiers would not participate in the chorus of the British "God Save the King", but should stand up and pay tribute. In order to take over the command of the "looters" commandos from Wingert as soon as possible, Stilwell encouraged Chiang Kai-shek to send the "Chinese long-range commandos" to India as soon as possible to receive British training, so as to establish the "Sino-British Joint Commando Regiment" as soon as possible. At the Quebec meeting, the United States, Britain and China made a decision again, and stipulated that Stilwell was under the command of Slim, the commander-in-chief of the British Fourth Army, while the "Sino-British Joint Commando Regiment" was under the command of Stilwell, and the American "looters" detachment was under the command of Wingert. But Stilwell was already the "Deputy Commander of the Allied Forces in Southeast Asia" in command of the Burma Theater and the South East Asia Theater. The British loved this contradictory and mixed command relationship. Stilwell had been vehemently opposed to this, but he agreed to this arrangement because he wanted the British to participate in the counter-attack against Burma.
