On August 13, 1927, Chiang Kai-shek went out for the first time
On this day, 98 years ago, August 13, 1927 (July 16, 1927, the lunar calendar), Chiang Kai-shek went out for the first time. On August 8, 1927 (Qi Day), led by Li Zongren and accompanied by Bai Chongxi, Chiang Kai-shek and others, sent a telegram of peace to Wuhan. Qi Dian admitted that they "acted recklessly and made many mistakes" and claimed that "if the Communist Party completely withdraws from the party headquarters, the party will only have the whole aftermath and there will be no disputes between the two factions. The First Plenary Session will be held to promote the progress of the conference." The telegram asked Wuhan government dignitaries to visit Nanjing as soon as possible to "fulfill their long-cherished promises." On August 9, Tang Shengzhi issued a telegram to urge Chiang Kai-shek, saying that Chiang Kai-shek had "administered the party with the army and stole the government with the party" and established his own government. He asked loyal comrades at home to "work together to quell chaos." Wuhan also threatened: "Everything can be negotiated, and Chiang personally must not be forgiven." On August 13, Chiang Kai-shek issued a "Letter to the Central Supervisory Committee" saying: "In July and August this year, it was discovered that most ordinary soldiers could not understand the Party and were unwilling to respect the Party... Chiang Kai-shek believed that if the situation was at this point, if he continued to fight, he would not be the commander-in-chief appointed by the Party, but would become a puppet of force. Zhongzheng never wanted to do this, so he resolutely retired. On the same day, Chiang Kai-shek resigned as commander-in-chief of the National Revolutionary Army and announced his "retirement." Chiang immediately returned to his hometown in Fenghua via Ningbo. Hu Hanmin, Wu Zhihui, Li Shizeng, Zhang Jingjiang, Cai Yuanpei and others who supported Chiang Kai-shek also announced their resignation and left Nanjing for Shanghai.
