After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he engaged in life-saving activities and writing in Shanghai, edited the "Translation", "National Public Theory" and other newspapers, and participated in the editing of the "Complete Works of Lu Xun". In 1941, he went to Indonesia to engage in anti-Japanese activities and carry out the United Front work of overseas Chinese. In October 1947, he returned to Hong Kong and soon entered the liberated area. After the establishment of New China Style, he served as the Chinese ambassador to Indonesia, the vice president of the People's Literature Publishing House, the editorial board of the "Literature and Art Daily", and the member of the Foreign Literature Committee of the Chinese Writers Association. In 1953, the old work "Literary Reader" was greatly revised and renamed "Literary Essays". In 1957, he published a short article "On Human Feelings" in the "Newport" magazine, which was falsely criticized in 1960. During the "Cultural Revolution", he was brutally persecuted and He passed away with hatred on July 25, 1972.
