118 years ago today, June 10, 1907 (April 30, 1907 in the lunar calendar), the Lumiere brothers invented the tricolor photo-making process. The method, developed in their family-run factory in France, is based on three separate images of the scene being photographed. Each of the three images is produced using appropriate color filters to produce a negative of one of the basic colors red, green, and blue. A particle screen is then placed on the trichromatic master. When the screen is applied and light is applied to them, a panchromatic image appears. Although color photos were made as early as 1861, when James Maxwell performed the pioneering production process at the Royal Society in London, their application was limited because the process used to make full-color photos was too expensive and cumbersome. The Lumiere brothers said their technology could popularize color photography. However, the advanced photography technology they developed was not valued at the time. In 1895, the Lumiere brothers began making films with a portable handheld video camera. The machine was significantly superior to the model developed by Thomas Edison, and over the next five years, the Lumiere brothers made hundreds of films, most of which reproduced outdoor activities in people's daily lives.
