On this day, 130 years ago, on September 4, 1895 (July 16, 1895 in the lunar calendar), Xiang Jingyu, the leader of the China women's movement, was born. Xiang Jingyu On September 4, 1895, Xiang Jingyu, a China proletarian revolutionary and a famous leader of the women's movement in the early days of the Communist Party of China, was born. Xiang Jingyu is a Tujia native of Xupu, Hunan Province. In 1918, he participated in the "Xinmin Society" led by Mao Zedong. In 1919, he went to France to work and study. After returning to China in 1922, he joined the Communist Party of China. At the Second to Fourth National Congresses of the Communist Party of China, Xiang Jingyu was elected as a member of the Central Committee, served as Minister of the Central Women's Department and Secretary of the Women's Movement Committee, and edited the Women's Weekly. In 1923, he led the strike of female workers in Shanghai's silk and tobacco factories. In 1925, he went to study at Moscow University. After returning to China in 1927, he fought against Chen Duxiu's mistakes at the Fifth National Congress of the Communist Party of China. In the spring of 1928, Xiang Jingyu was arrested in the French Concession of Hankou for betrayal by a traitor. In prison, she fought tenaciously against the enemy and died heroically on May 1, 1928.
