Riots broke out in Ili on May 25, 1962
On this day 63 years ago, on May 25, 1962 (April 22, 1962 lunar calendar), a riot broke out in Yili. On April 16, 1962, more than 60,000 residents of Tacheng, Yumin and Huocheng counties in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region fled to the Soviet Union due to the long-term instigation and deception of the Soviet Union through its staff in Xinjiang. On May 25, the Soviet Union created the Yili riot, and the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, under the leadership of the Party and the People's Government, quickly crushed the counter-revolutionary armed rebellion.
