Breaking-News >> TodayHistory July 21, 1842 Zhenjiang resisted the enemy
183 years ago today, on July 21, 1842 (June 14, 1842 lunar calendar), Zhenjiang resisted the enemy. The British army attacked Zhenjiang. Qi Shen, the minister of counselor at that time, and Liu Yunxiao, the governor of Hubei, led the army to defend all parts of the city, and the deputy capital led Hailing to garrison 1,000 flag soldiers and 600 Qingzhou soldiers to defend the city. Today, the British army landed from the northwest of Zhenjiang City. One team feigned to attack the north gate, and the other team stormed the west gate. The British army entered the city, and the defenders resisted heroically. They fought fiercely with 7,000 invading troops in street battles, killing 160 and 70 British soldiers. The Qing army lost more than 600 casualties. Hailing hanged himself, and his family was martyred. The British army raped and looted Zhenjiang, causing "no city, no empty, no home, no destruction". For more than ten days, "no sun, no fire", and the prosperous Zhenjiang became a rubble field. News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/1erl.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.27-13:37] 访问:79
