On this day, 54 years ago, October 13, 1971 (August 25, 1971 in the lunar calendar), my country and Burundi resumed diplomatic relations. Burundi, the full name is the Republic of Burundi. Formerly called Urundi. A landlocked country located on the southern side of the Equator in central and eastern Africa. It covers an area of 27834 square kilometers. Population 5.62 million (1991). It consists of three tribes: Hutu, Tuxi and Tewa. The official languages are Kirundi and French. 65% of the residents believe in Catholicism, 10% believe in Protestantism, and the rest believe in Islam, primitive religions, etc. The capital, Bujumbura. Mineral deposits mainly include nickel, peat, cerium, tantalum, tin, etc. Forest coverage is 3% of the country's land. The economy is dominated by agriculture and animal husbandry, with more than 90% of the population engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. The main crops are corn, sorghum, rice, cassava, coffee, tea and cotton. Most of the industries are agricultural product processing, textiles, cigarettes and power generation. It was called the Kingdom of Burundi. In 1966, the king was deposed and the Republic of Burundi was established. The Second and Third Republics were established in November 1976 and September 1987 respectively. A new constitution was adopted in 1992 and a multi-party system was implemented. On December 21, 1963, Burundi established diplomatic relations with China. On January 29, 1965, Burundi announced the temporary suspension of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
