Feng Yuxiang died on August 22, 1948
On this day, 77 years ago, August 22, 1948 (July 18, 1948, the lunar calendar), Feng Yuxiang was killed. General Feng Yuxiang Feng Yuxiang, also known as Huanzhang, was born in Chaoxian County, Anhui Province on November 6 in 1882 (the eighth year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty). In 1913, he served as commander of the Second Regiment of the 1st Division of the Beijing Guards Army, and was soon promoted to brigade commander. In 1914, he entered Shaanxi with Lu Jianzhang. In October, he served as commander of the 16th Mixed Brigade, and began to form his basic team. In 1921, he served as Shaanxi Governor. The following year, after the first Zhifeng War, he was transferred to Henan Governor. During the Second Zhifeng War in 1924, he launched a Beijing coup d'état as commander-in-chief of the Third Army, changed his headquarters to the National Army, and was promoted to commander-in-chief and commander of the First Army. He went to the Soviet Union for inspection in March 1926 and returned to China in August. In September, when the National Revolutionary Army arrived in Wuhan, it swore in Wuyuan (now part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region) and announced that it would join the Kuomintang collectively. In April 1927, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the Second Group Army of the National Revolutionary Army. He participated in the anti-communist activities of Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Jingwei. Since the conflict with the Chiang Kai-shek clique in early 1929 and the uprising of troops against Chiang Kai-shek, the Chiang Kai-Feng War and the Central Plains War broke out successively. After the September 18th Incident, he actively advocated resistance to Japan and opposed Chiang's policy of non-resistance. In May 1933, he cooperated with the Communist Party of China to form the People's Anti-Japanese Alliance in Zhangjiakou. In 1936, he went to Nanjing and served as vice chairman of the Kuomintang Military Committee. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he was appointed commander of the Sixth Theater and was quickly dismissed. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he continued to adopt a position of cooperation with the Communist Party of China, opposed Chiang's civil war and authoritarian policies, and initiated the formation of the Revolutionary Committee of the China Kuomintang with Li Jishen and others. In 1946, he went abroad to inspect water conservancy and visited Europe and the United States in two years. In November 1947, the China Peace and Democracy Alliance was formed in the United States and was promoted as chairman. In January 1948, he was expelled from the Kuomintang. In August, in response to the call of the Communist Party of China, he returned to China to participate in the preparations for the New Political Consultative Conference. On the 22nd, he was killed when the Soviet ship Victory caught fire in the Black Sea.
